part 1
* thanks for the video
* wow,i luv history
* actually brother, that's not wrong information. Nepal was part of ancient Bharat Varsha (India)
Going by today's geo-political standards, the Buddha was born in Lumbini (Nepal) but attained Nirvana in Gaya (India). The Holy Dalai Lama says "Hinduism and Buddhism are like twin brothers. They have common practices such as Vipassana ans samadhi." hinduism = buddhism = peace.
* yes,buddha was born in Nepal at a small village called Lumbini.But he reached Nirvana in India .
* Thanks for the video. Now we all knew that the Lord Buddha was born in NEPAL. Not only that, he reach Nirvana, "enlightenment" in NEPAL too.
Because many earlier texts and books state that the Lord Buddha was born in INDIA, many people always have assumed Buddha associated with India. They have all got the wrong information.
* different ways... but buddhism is still buddhism. u cant destroy the truth.
* 1. He did not worship the gods of people around him. But Buddha believing that there is "only one god and he was a messenger of him?" I don't think that's true. Could you please tell me where you read this? Muhammad said that there is only one god and he is his messenger. Buddha claimed to be the reincarnation of a holy being that has the knowledge to end suffering and the prowess to pass on that difficult knowledge.
* 2. Buddhism generally prohibits adultery out of respect towards the cuckold and discipline towards sensual passions like sex. Compassion and self-control are both central Buddhist notions. That's my understanding at least.
* "[H]is scriptures where first interpreted centuries after him, it led to misinterpretation with good faith of his true message." Needless to say, no one living heard the Buddha speak and can say definitively what misinterpretation occurred. But oral transmission of religious teachings were not uncommon in that part of India and their recital and memorization was and still considered part of monks' mental discipline.
* ok thank you for the info. i made an error saying u believe in buddha as god. actually budhists believe buddha was an atheist, but i have read that he actually didnt believe in the deformed gods of hindus or brahman tribes? but his original teachings were to worship one god (the interpretations came centuries after him)
replies : (1) I don't have my books with me and there are well-informed people on this board to correct me or elaborate but from my understanding:
- Buddha was noticeably silent on the issue of a creator god
- Whether or not Buddha was an atheist depends entire on your definition of the term, limiting it to only someone who does not express a belief in an Abrahamic God or any of the Hindu incarnations of unchanging Brahma, regardless of other spiritual beliefs and practices
(2) - I find you can only go so far with polar notions like atheism and theism when exploring Buddhism and other Eastern religious before it seems wisest to open up new categories.
- There is no single book or set of books in Buddhism that'd be equivalent to the Bible in Christianity or Koran in Islam. Buddha himself spoke of the limitations of words. Certain scriptures have gained prominence in certain branches but mostly because of their beauty and usefulness and not direct holiness.
well i have read that buddha didnt believe in the gods of people around him but believed in only one god and he was a messenger of him. how come buddhism forbid adultery? but since his scriptures where first interpreted centuries after him, it led to misinterpretation with good faith of his true message.
* No my friend, buddha, respective to us is a human being who took off all the desires by himself by finding the modest path. He explined the path he found to the others. His techings are the best I have ever learned
* Buddha never stated he was a god. He only wished to relieve the suffering of all beings.
